John Greg Ball -Industrial Design Studio- Calgary. AB. Research and collaboration are integral to my design practice; they provide me with a socially conscious, multi-faceted perspective for problem solving. My holistic body of work is heavily driven by conceptual ideation and the continual developments made throughout the design process. I never stop pushing as good design is perpetual evolution. John Greg Ball was born in Calgary, Alberta May 01,1975 and grew up in High River Alberta. Prior to his studies in Art and Design Greg worked in the construction field traveling Western Canada. Ball studied landscape with Artist Norman Brown from 1996-7, and was trained in ceramics and design with Chuck Wissinger. Bronze Sculpture with Graham Page, Ian Cooke, and Jim Trevelyen in 1997-99. Studied drawing with Jim Westergard- 1997-99. Studied Design at the University of Alberta with Robert Lederer, and and Tim Antoniuk-Hothouse design. Bachelor of Design degree combining Anthropology, Sociology of design. Freelance Product and Furniture Design consulting. 2006 Best of Canada Award with Shoko Cesar. 2005- Honorable Mention "subsonic" chair, Designboom International 'teenage furniture' design competition, Milan, Italy. 2003 Tokyo Designers Block Entry: Greg Ball. Collaborated with International multi-media Artist: Eric Deis-2002. Various Projects: Eric Deis. Greg worked as a designer for Landscape Architecture and Urban Design firm: Carlyle + Associates. Landscape Architect- Douglas Carlyle. As a diverse and multi-disciplinary Designer, Ball is known for his collaborative sculpture work at the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, industrial design of fashion glasses manufactured by OPUS Design in Japan, and graphic design for his favorite fishing lure company Len Thompson. Industrial Design work at the University of Alberta -Art and Design students of Red Deer College. 2001 Public Art- Worked with Artist Shoko Cesar (http://www.shoko.ca) in large-scale mural. Mural is located in the courtyard of The Grey Nuns regional center in Edmonton. 2001 Industrial Designer - The Works Art in Public Places Project- Commonwealth Stadium (2001). Worked in four-person design team creating concepts, design development, researching materials, finishes, and finding welders in Edmonton who had the capacity to build the large-scale project.
